Family Donates Toys to Pediatric Dental Office
LEWISBURG - Young patients of Pediatric Dentistry of Lewisburg and Dr. Jay Holthus will be smiling even brighter as they leave the Lewisburg-based children’s dental office. Patients may be carrying with them one of the newly donated stuffed animal toys generously supplied by the McKeon family of Williamsport. Brian (11), Josiah (8), Gabriel (7) and Kaleb (4) personally delivered approximately 200 new, large stuffed fish, teddy bears, flamingoes, monkeys, rabbits and more for Dr. Jay’s patients to enjoy at the completion of their dental visit. “Kids respond much better to an invasive procedure if they are aware from the start that a very nice prize awaits them,” Holthus says. “The fact that the McKeon boys recognize that and in turn donate these wonderful gifts, is truly special.”

The boys’ were able to donate such a large quantity of animals with help from their grandfather, who is employed by a toy manufacturer in New York. All four boys are patients at Pediatric Dentistry of Lewisburg and wanted to “show their appreciation for the care and education Dr. Jay and his staff have provided.”

SHAMOKIN DAM, PA - On March 31st, 2007, The Sunset Skating Rink was the setting for the latest “No Cavity Club” Party hosted by “Dr. Jay” Holthus and the staff of Pediatric Dentistry of Lewisburg. More than 250 club members and their parents enjoyed an afternoon of skating fun, games, and pizza. Dr. Holthus organized the exclusive club as an incentive to his patients to not only complete a current treatment plan, but also to promote the importance of maintaining a cavity-free smile. Patients are eligible for membership if they are either cavity-free at their most recent visit or have completed oral rehabilitation with Dr. Holthus. Members must then remain cavity-free by demonstrating good oral hygiene practices at home.  Holthus and his staff educate patients and parents on the dangers of excessive juice consumption and other hidden contributors to the decline of oral health in children. “If you hang a prize out in front of a child undergoing a difficult procedure, they become much more willing to participate. These parties are my way of saying ‘Job well done and keep up the excellent work,’” said Holthus.  The next “No Cavity Club” party is planned for this coming summer at the Lewisburg Area Community Pool.
